Hi, I'm Devon — and I started Relate-Ability because everyone deserves to explore love and connection.
Throughout my career in human services, I kept noticing the same gap. People with disabilities, just like everyone else, wanting friendships, romance, and real connection. But the spaces to explore that safely were almost non-existent. And the limited spaces that were available- unsafe, inaccessible and not inclusive.
Conversations about dating and relationships were avoided and considered too complex. Meanwhile, the people I worked alongside were experiencing some of the highest rates of social isolation, exploitation, and abuse of anyone in our community.
I decided to create the space I wished existed with the help of people in the community. Relate-Ability is created by people with disability for people with disability.
"Everyone deserves to have access to education and opportunities to safely navigate friendships and romantic connection."
Relate-Ability was built to change the space thoughtfully, safely, and with the whole community in mind. We work alongside individuals, their families, and their support workers to build skills, create opportunities, and open doors for real connection.
Why this work matters
50%
People with disabilities are 50% more likely to face abuse, sexual violence, and exploitation compared to those without disabilities.
↑
Social isolation and loneliness affect people with disabilities at much higher rates, and the consequences are serious.
❤️
Strong social connections are linked to longer life, better immune function, lower rates of anxiety and depression, and improved overall wellbeing.

Safe, inclusive spaces to explore dating and friendship for people with disabilities were almost non-existent. We're changing that.
Our goals: education, awareness, safety & connection.
